Pataka Visit

What a great visit we all had to the Pataka Museum in Porirua on Monday.

read some great stories in the library and then Kiri showed us the Joseph Michael's Dark Cloud,White Light exhibition and we made our own day and night pictures. After lunch we went with Linda to the Then and Now display where we could look and touch things from the past. You all looked great in the olden day clothes.

Today

I was very proud of Room 1 today when the earthquake struck. They did all the right things - got under their desks, made turtles - and they stayed there until they were told to leave the class. They then walked out in a quiet and calm way to line up on the courts.
The practice they've been doing with Mrs S has really payed off.
Well done Room 1!

(and I promise not to visit any more just in case it was my fault)

Dear Parents

As part of our topic, ‘How Has it Changed?’, Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 4 have organised a trip on  Monday, August 26^th to visit Pataka in Porirua.

We will be splitting our day into 3 parts:-

a)    visiting Pataka and having a workshop called ‘Where do I Plug in?’

b)    visiting the Porirua Library for a story time

c)    visiting the Gallery at Pataka and viewing the Joseph Michael exhibition entitled ‘Dark Cloud/White Light’ and then an activity

We will rotate around these activities during the day.

As part of this trip, to get the best out of our workshop, ‘Where do I Plug in?’, we need to have parent helpers for each class.

Unfortunately this trip will not be suitable for pre-schoolers.

If you would love to come on this trip with us, please fill in the form at the bottom and return it to your child’s classroom. There will be room for you to travel on the bus.

We will leave school promptly at 9am and will return by 3pm.

The cost is $7 per child which will come out of the activity fee. Your child’s full activity must be paid for them to participate in this trip.

From Mr Haste

Hi all - Special hi to room 1

 

I have had an interesting start to my time at the zoo. All the teachers will be happy to know I picked up my first poop today (using a shovel!). It was kunekune, wallaby, kangaroo and giraffe.

Also today I did or helped -  find an emu egg, got threatened by some grumpy geese, watched some pigs and antelope get trained (pigs for contact walks, antelope for being moved and medical) as well as general feeding and cleaning. I was on my first section with the herbivores team. Giraffes are very curious and kept coming to check me out while I was cleaning their enclosure ( that's a special mention for Mrs Campbell).

Before today I have had lots of meetings, learning new faces and finding my way around (especially the keeper areas).

I have watched quite a few lessons and learned some new things. I have asked LOTS of questions. I have met many cool and unusual animals - been licked by dingos, stroked a legless lizard (amazingly odd) and was lucky enough to hand feed the red pandas. They have very sharp claws but are very gentle.
